About Me
I have been training labrador retrievers for competitive work, mainly field trials, since the mid 90′s. This interest grew to the point that I am now a qualified B panel judge for field trials and have a field trial champion amongst my dogs. I also occasionally breed working labradors. Along the way I became fascinated by dog training techniques which are based on learning theory, and which utilise the clicker as a training tool, even though most field triallers at that time used the more traditional methods of training. I currently conduct classes in Kloof as well as private lessons. I recently worked at Matthew Berry’s Canine Lifestyle Centre, collaborating with him in designing and running training programmes for pet obedience classes and puppy socializing classes. I have recently passed the Canine Culture Puppy Course with merit and am in the process of completing the Canine Culture Adult course. I am also a certified Superpup Trainer. The more I work with dogs and their owners, the more I believe that education can lead to greater understanding of dogs as a species and in doing so create a relationship based on mutual respect.
